Cynthia Yardley gives us fascinating images of interiors that allow us to contemplate what kind of people inhabit them. Made up of many small photos arranged in a grid so that you feel as if you are looking through windows, they are the most voyeuristic pieces in the show.

In one grouping, the anonymous inhabitant of a house is partly framed by a mirror in the entryway. Photographs and artworks on the wall around the mirror give us clues to his life – a picture of an older woman, perhaps a grandmother, and a shot of the Eiffel Tower are intriguing. Below them, the floor is cluttered with castoffs – tennis shoes, boots, Birkenstocks, backpacks – suggesting an active family of casual dressers, some perhaps students.

In another series of shots, we see the rather ornate interior of a living room or study with a picture of a military man at the center. Around the room are a curved dagger in an ornate scabbard, a sculpture of an Indian servant, and a formal chair. On the walls around the military man, 19th century prints of Indian regiments and battle scenes are hung over a photo of a multiracial family. The work offers a fascinating game of Clue as you try to figure out to whom the room might belong.
